Match Report
Thames Fusion Fire Fall Short as Valley End Chase Down 120 with Ease
Thames Fusion Fire posted a competitive 119 for 5 from their 20 overs after Valley End won the toss and inserted them at Windlesham Park, but the hosts made light work of the chase, reaching 121 for 1 in just 15.4 overs to claim the BYCL Girls U15 Blast Group 2 points.
Captain Livia Sharma was the standout performer of the first innings, carrying her bat for a superb unbeaten 59 from 46 balls, striking seven boundaries in an innings that anchored the Thames Fusion total. Sharma set the platform early alongside R Babu, the pair putting on 36 for the opening wicket before Babu fell for 10, bowled by Maya Morzaria.
Reesha Bharti joined Sharma and contributed 14 from 34 balls as the pair consolidated. When K Broom came in at number four, there was a productive partnership of 48 for the second wicket before Broom was bowled by India Rossiter for 4. The middle order then stuttered, with R Desai (1) and J Babu (0) both falling to Cian Healy in quick succession as Thames Fusion slipped from 84 for 2 to 89 for 4. Bharti was eventually run out by Anoushka Kumar with the score on 103, but Sharma's defiance ensured the total reached a defendable mark.
Among the Thames Fusion bowlers, Healy was the pick with figures of 2 for 21 from her four overs, including a maiden — the only bowler on either side to deliver one in the match. Morzaria chipped in with 1 for 26, while Rossiter's two overs yielded 1 for 8. Emily Greaves was economical with 8 runs from her two overs without taking a wicket.
The Valley End reply got off to a steady start as Bethan Standing and Kumar put on 22 for the first wicket. Standing was caught by Sharma off the bowling of Bharti for 9, but that was the only success Thames Fusion's bowlers would enjoy. Kumar batted sensibly for her 15 from 30 balls before retiring not out.
Healy then took command of the chase, blazing 36 not out from just 26 deliveries with six fours, dismantling the Thames Fusion attack with authority. Emma Shaw-Hales provided able support at the other end, contributing an unbeaten 15 from 21 balls with three boundaries. The pair guided Valley End home without further alarm.
Thames Fusion's bowling in the second innings was undermined by extras, with 46 in total — including 32 wides — effectively gifting Valley End a significant portion of their target. J Babu's three overs alone conceded 18 wides, while R Babu sent down eight wides and two no-balls in four overs. Bharti was the only bowler to take a wicket, finishing with 1 for 26 from 3.4 overs. It was a chastening afternoon for the Fire, who will need to tighten their discipline if they are to compete at the top end of the group.
