Match Report

After more than matching defending champions Cavaliers the previous week, Pinkneys Green were sent packing by Sonning in a six-wicket defeat.

Pinkneys were punished for only being able to field 10 players as they were bowled out for 139.

Teenager Martin Huntley topscored with 52 while Paul Carey added a gutsy 39, but the remainder of the team failed to cope with the pace of left arm quickie Ghulam Abbas who took 6-32.

Pinkneys skipper Steve Greene said: "Unfortunately we were not able to post a big enough score to test their batting."

In reply Sonning's Mark Richards went on the rampage with a blistering 74 not out while Latif Ghore made 35 as his side coasted home at 142-4.

Jagz Dhillon was the pick of the Pinkneys attack by taking 3-30 but there was no stopping Abbas who was at his lightning quick best.

Sonning skipper Gary Phillips said: "Abbas was quick on what was a slow wicket but it was a good team performance and all round the team we had out on Saturday was as strong as it has been for the last five years."

This week Sonning face up to a much-improved Sandhurst side who out-gunned defending champions Cavaliers last weekend.

And it promises to be a fascinating battle of the speed merchants as Abbas pits his wits against Sandhurst's new bowling sensation Simon Hards.
