Match Report

Oranzaid Nazir made a spectacular debut for Sonning as they battled to a four-wicket win at Swindon NALGO.

Nazir came in for unavailable opener Mark Richards and blasted a hard-hit 80 as Sonning eased in at 157-6 in reply to NALGO’s 154 all out.

But Sonning skipper Gary Phillips admitted: “We made heavy weather of it.

It was more of a workmanlike performance this week and we gave silly wickets away towards the end.

Swindon were in all sorts of trouble early on against leg-spinner Anwar Ul Haq and off spinner Latif Gohar.

Anwar took 5-46 and Latif also chipped in with a couple of wickets to leave Swindon on 80-8 before R Kewell (43no) and Chahal put together a vital stand to take them to a respectable score.

Nazir gave Sonning a lightning start as he punished Maurice Beale early on, then Latif hit 29 before holing out to midwicket.

Three other wickets fell soon after, but Sonning eased to victory.
