Sonning Women Cruise to Victory at Wellington College with Dominant All-Round Display

Sonning Women's 1st XI secured a convincing win away to Crowthorne & Crown Wood in Super 8 Development Group 4 on 31st May, with contributions across the batting order and a disciplined bowling attack proving too much for the hosts at Derby Field, Wellington College.

After Crowthorne won the toss and elected to field, Sonning's batters made the most of a generous extras tally to build a formidable total. In the pairs format, starting from 200, every member of the Sonning lineup contributed with the bat. Grace Phillips top-scored with 16 off 15 balls, finding one boundary, while Belle Myers struck a lively 14 from 12 deliveries including two fours. Opener Sophie Parker set the tone early with 11 off just 10 balls, hitting two boundaries, and Elinor Longridge maintained the momentum with a brisk 12 off 9 balls, also finding the rope twice. Kira Knight chipped in with a composed 12 from 15 balls at the tail end of the innings.

The Crowthorne bowling attack struggled with discipline throughout, conceding a remarkable 50 extras — 32 in wides and 18 in no-balls. Liz Rhodes's two overs proved the most costly, leaking 24 runs including 10 no-balls and six wides. Nicci De Bromhead conceded 23 from her three overs, while Kate Pobjoy went for 22 off two. Only Olivia Amor (3-0-13-1) and captain Nikola Mansfield (3-0-21-1) managed to claim wickets for the hosts, with Sonning losing just two in total.

In reply, Crowthorne needed a big effort but found Sonning's bowlers far more challenging to navigate. Jo Lee was the standout with 16 off 12 balls, the only batter to truly threaten, while Nicci De Bromhead (13 off 13, two fours) and Sandra Barlow (11 off 12) offered some resistance lower in the order. Liz Rhodes added 11 from her 12 balls, but the top order faltered, with Lou Walker managing just 2 from 9 deliveries and captain Mansfield restricted to 3 off 11.

Sophie Parker was the pick of the Sonning bowlers, claiming 2 wickets from her three overs, while Belle Myers (3-0-11-1) was the most economical, conceding just 11 runs and taking a wicket. Kira Knight also impressed with 1 for 12 from her three overs. The Crowthorne innings was punctuated by five dismissals, each costing five runs in the pairs format, and despite their own extras contribution of 44, the hosts could not keep pace with Sonning's total.

Captain Katie Barrows will have been pleased with the collective effort, as six Sonning bowlers were used and the wickets were shared around. Grace Phillips, who had earlier top-scored with the bat, also contributed three tidy overs with the ball, going for 19 without reward but maintaining pressure in the middle overs.

Sonning's victory earns them six points in the league standings, with Crowthorne picking up a solitary point.
