Widanapathirana's Unbeaten 73 Not Enough as Sonning Fall to West Wycombe

West Wycombe CC secured a 24-run victory against Sonning's Sunday 1st XI in their April 27th encounter, successfully defending their total of 191/5. The visitors put in a commanding batting performance that ultimately proved too challenging for the Sonning side to overcome.

Sonning's innings got off to a troubling start when opener Rahul Sood was caught for just 1 run, putting immediate pressure on their chase. Shamitha Widanapathirana, however, stood firm at the crease, crafting a remarkable unbeaten 73 that formed the backbone of Sonning's response. He received some support from Asad Imam, who contributed a valuable 32 before being bowled, while Robert Jones added 19 and Arun Kumar Pera chipped in with 11.

Earlier, West Wycombe had set a challenging target of 192, with Sonning's bowlers battling hard to contain them. Asad Imam was the pick of the Sonning attack, claiming impressive figures of 2/18 from his seven economical overs. Neil Jasti provided support with 1/16 from four overs, while Arun Kumar Pera maintained disciplined figures of 1/10 from his four-over spell. Widanapathirana also made a contribution in the field with a well-executed run out.

Despite the all-round efforts from Widanapathirana and useful contributions from several teammates, Sonning's final total of 167/6 fell short of the target. The loss marked a disappointing result for the Sunday 1st XI, who showed glimpses of quality but couldn't quite match West Wycombe's overall performance on the day.
