1st XI v Swindon Nalgo 1st Team

Won

Swindon Nalgo won the toss and elected to bat.

Match Report

Sonning showed no signs of weakness despite losing their star signing on the eve of the new season.

Former Minor Counties allrounder Tim Jones fractured his thumb during a nets session and missed the curtain raiser at Swindon Nalgo but Sonning still surged to a superb nine-wicket romp.

And afterwards skipper Gary Phillips admitted: "We played very well all round and didn't give them a chance."

Paceman Ghulam Abbas got a lot of pace and movement on a low slow wicket to emerge with 4-22, while Andy Benning weighed in with 3-21.

Skipper Phillips, Phil Swann and Mark Richards finished the job with a wicket each as Swindon were skittled out for just 96.

Richards made his intentions clear as he hammered the first ball of Sonning's reply for six.

And he went on to reach 68 to clinch a nine-wicket triumph inside 14 overs.
