Match Report

Scorchers Bowl Bradfield Out for 90 in Convincing Away Victory

Sonning U13 Scorchers produced a disciplined bowling display to dismiss Bradfield for 90 in just 15.4 overs at Bradfield on 15 June, securing a victory in their BYCL Under 13 Blast North West fixture. Captain Eshan Wang Kumar won the toss and made the bold decision to insert the hosts, a call that was vindicated by his bowlers' collective effort.

Bradfield's innings never truly gathered sustained momentum. Openers Kimi Sanderson and captain Ollie Cook managed just six runs before Cook fell bowled to Eshan Wang Kumar, who struck in his opening spell to finish with figures of 1-12 from his two overs. Sanderson was then run out smartly by wicketkeeper Joseph Dowse, leaving the hosts 18 for 2 and under early pressure.

Isaac Ferley struck a couple of boundaries in a brisk nine before Siddharth Kumar bowled him to make it 24 for 3. It was Harry Crocker who provided the most resistance for Bradfield, playing the innings of the match with an aggressive 20 from 15 balls that included three fours and a six. His partnership of 21 with Iestyn Thomas for the fourth wicket was the most productive of the home side's innings, briefly threatening to establish a competitive platform.

Idris Malik's introduction proved decisive in breaking the partnership's momentum. He removed the dangerous Crocker, clean bowling him to end his counter-attack, and then accounted for Xander Parkinson-Gadd, caught by Vedanth Subramanian, to finish with excellent figures of 2-5 from two overs — the standout bowling performance of the afternoon. Santhosh Murugaraj also contributed handsomely with 2-21 from three overs, including a caught-and-bowled to dismiss Louis Pendleton, while also bowling Iestyn Thomas for five.

Vedanth Subramanian was another to impress with the ball, conceding just four runs from his two overs — including a maiden — and picking up the wicket of Jack Sanford as Bradfield slumped to 56 for 7. The hosts briefly rallied through a lower-order partnership of 20 between Carlos Diego Da Silva (12 off 10 balls, three fours) and Harry Smith, who finished unbeaten on six. However, Namit Desai broke the stand when Da Silva was caught by Subramanian, who took two catches during the innings.

Elias Haidari also deserved credit for his economical spell of 2-0-6-0, keeping the Bradfield batters in check during the early overs despite conceding four no-balls. Arnav Duvvuri completed the fielding effort with a sharp run out to dismiss James Holley and wrap up the Bradfield innings. In total, eight Sonning bowlers were used, all contributing to a well-shared attack that limited extras to 17 despite a few wayward spells.

The Scorchers' reply was not recorded in the scorecard data, but the result was confirmed as a Sonning victory, earning them a full 20 league points while Bradfield collected three bonus points. It was a performance defined by excellent bowling variety and sharp fielding, with Malik's miserly two overs and Subramanian's control in particular giving the Bradfield batters very little to work with.
