Match Report

Kestrels Cruise to Comfortable Victory Over Holyport at King George's Field

Sonning U9 Kestrels secured a convincing win over Holyport in the BYCL Under 9 Super 8s North East league fixture on 7th June, chasing down 97 with considerable ease to post 146 for 4 from their 20 overs at King George's Field.

Captain Ahmad Naqash won the toss and chose to insert the visitors, a decision that was immediately vindicated by a disciplined bowling display from the Kestrels. Siddhartha Yanamadala was the standout performer with the ball, returning remarkable figures of 2 for 2 from his two overs, including a maiden. He was virtually unplayable, giving the Holyport batters nothing to score from and picking up two crucial wickets in the process.

Yeshwin Saimpu was equally impressive, claiming 1 for 3 from two overs with a maiden of his own, while Vihaan More chipped in with 1 for 8. Aadvik Gonchikar and Ibrahim Jafri each took a wicket apiece to round off a fine team bowling effort that saw all ten Kestrels players given a turn with the ball. Maurya Chirunamala was tidy with figures of 0 for 5 from two overs, conceding just two wides and no no-balls.

Holyport's innings never truly got going, with Owen Baker top-scoring with 10 off 14 balls, including a four and a six — the only maximum of the match. Zaky Mirza contributed 8 from 27 deliveries at the top of the order, while Joshua Osborne struck a brisk 7 from 8 balls lower down. The visitors' total of 97 included 60 extras, with 26 wides and 29 no-balls supplementing their 37 runs from the bat.

The Kestrels' reply was built around a fluent innings from Yeshwin Saimpu, who followed up his excellent bowling with 19 off just 15 balls at the top of the order, striking two fours in an assured display. His confident start set the tone for the chase, ensuring the required rate was never a concern.

Contributions came from throughout the Sonning batting order. Maurya Chirunamala made 8 off 12 balls with a boundary, Vihaan More struck a useful 7 from 9 deliveries, and Younus Ahmed added 6 off 13 with a four. Siddhartha Yanamadala, already the star with the ball, weighed in with 5 runs to complete a fine all-round display. The Kestrels lost just four wickets across their 20 overs, with Holyport's bowlers struggling for accuracy — 93 of Sonning's 146 came from extras, including 43 wides and 38 no-balls.

Holyport's sole wicket-taker was Jessica White, who claimed 1 for 22 from three overs, while Zaky Mirza bowled tidily with figures of 0 for 4 from two overs including a maiden. The Kestrels, however, were never under any real pressure, and the 49-run winning margin reflected their dominance across both innings in a thoroughly professional team performance.
