U11 Sharks Overhaul Twyford with Clinical Chase at Ruscombe
Sonning U11 Sharks produced a disciplined all-round display to defeat Twyford Under 11 Thunder by 20 runs in this BYCL Under 11 Challenge fixture at Twyford and Ruscombe Cricket Club on 21 June. After restricting the hosts to 77 for 8 from their 16 overs, the Sharks chased down the target comfortably, posting 97 for 7 in reply.
Twyford won the toss and chose to bat first, but their innings never truly gained momentum against a well-organised Sonning bowling attack. Captain Rufus Fear-Bettis top-scored for the home side with 9 off 13 balls, while Thomas Abrams-Crisp matched that tally from 12 deliveries lower down the order. George H contributed 7 from his 12 balls, but no Twyford batter was able to build a substantial knock. Extras proved to be the largest contributor to their total, with 40 extras — including 13 wides and 10 no-balls — inflating a score that might otherwise have been far more modest.
The Sonning bowling effort was spearheaded by Jaiden Patel, who delivered an outstanding spell of 3-0-8-2, keeping the Twyford batters guessing throughout. Captain Dhruv Kashetty was equally impressive, returning figures of 3-1-7-2, including a maiden over that applied real pressure during the middle overs. Muhammad Abdurrahman Baig bowled with excellent control, conceding just 2 runs from his 2 overs while also claiming a wicket and bowling a maiden. Abdul-Ahad Baig chipped in with 1 for 4 from his 2 overs, and Arjun Baradvaj added another scalp, taking 1 for 8 despite being troubled by some wayward deliveries.
In reply, the Sharks made steady progress through their batting pairs. Kashetty led from the front at the top of the order, striking 8 off 14 balls including a boundary, while Muhammad Abdurrahman Baig rotated the strike neatly for his 6 off 10 balls. Abdul-Ahad Baig maintained the tempo with 7 from 14 deliveries, finding the rope once.
The decisive contribution came from Jaiden Patel, who batted with real intent at number six, hitting 11 off just 13 balls with two fours to finish as the Sharks' top scorer. Ruby Cross, keeping wicket earlier in the match, added a valuable 8 off 15 balls with a boundary, while Megan Symes chipped in with 5 from 9 including a four of her own. Arjun Baradvaj's brisk 6 off 10 balls, featuring a boundary, also helped keep the scoreboard ticking.
Twyford's bowlers struggled for consistency, sending down 30 wides and 6 no-balls across their 16 overs. Ayush R was the most economical, conceding just 4 runs from 2 overs while taking a wicket. Thomas Abrams-Crisp and George Evans-Turner each claimed 2 wickets apiece but proved expensive, while George H's 2 overs yielded 15 runs, 10 of which came from wides alone.
The 42 extras conceded by Twyford ultimately proved the difference in the match. The Sharks' bowling discipline — particularly from Patel, Kashetty, and Muhammad Abdurrahman Baig — stood in stark contrast, and their batters did enough with the willow to secure a comfortable 20-run victory and a full 20 league points.
