Dean's Century Powers Sonning to Commanding Victory over Warfield

Louis Dean's elegant century and a devastating bowling performance from Michael Longridge propelled Sonning Sunday As to a comprehensive 114-run victory against Warfield at The Memorial Ground on May 30th. Dean's masterclass of 100 runs from 119 deliveries, including 14 boundaries, formed the backbone of Sonning's imposing total of 214-3 from their 44 overs.

Sonning's innings began with early drama as captain Charles Astwood was caught by Mohideen Mubarak off Morgan Price's bowling for a duck. But Dean anchored the innings brilliantly, first building an 87-run partnership with Indeveer Sahota, who contributed an attacking 39 from 57 balls, including three fours and two sixes, before falling lbw to Chris Bolam.

The run flow continued as Hugo Popplewell joined Dean, adding 59 runs for the third wicket before Popplewell was bowled by Riyas Rajab for a well-compiled 30. Dean eventually retired unbeaten after reaching his century, while William Hibberdine provided the late impetus with an undefeated 33 from 47 deliveries, guiding Sonning to a formidable total.

In reply, Warfield's innings never gained momentum as Longridge tore through their top order, claiming four wickets for just 13 runs from his seven overs. The opening pair of Owen Stanford and Madhav Kalli were both caught early, with Stanford falling without scoring and Kalli managing just six runs.

Kyle Deller-Law provided excellent support with 2-26 from his six overs, while Kabir Dave finished off the Warfield innings with 2-8 from 4.5 overs. Edward Mercer-Gray and Joel Cripps also claimed a wicket apiece as Sonning maintained relentless pressure throughout the innings.

Warfield's resistance was limited, with Mohideen Mubarak's 16 representing their highest individual score. Despite a hefty contribution of 42 extras to their total, Warfield were dismissed for just 100 runs in 32.5 overs, falling well short of their target.

The victory was built on Sonning's all-round performance, with Dean's batting masterclass setting the platform before their disciplined bowling attack, led by Longridge, systematically dismantled the Warfield batting lineup to secure a convincing win in this friendly fixture.
