Match Report

Last year's champions Sonning had to settle for the better of a draw at Swindon as they were unable to dismiss their hosts.

Latif Gohar led the way for Sonning with 132 of his side's 263-2 total while Steve Roberts (68 no) and Duncan Parr (42) also chipped in.

But after making a flying start to their reply Swindon were slowed up and reached 197-6 as Mohammed Rafiq (50) and Shoayb Rahman (48) topscored for the Wiltshire side.

Sonning skipper Gary Phillips, who took a couple of wickets in his first spell with the ball in over five years, said: "They blitzed it at the start but then we took some wickets and tied them up and after that they never kept up with the rate.

"Abbas's pace was nullified by the slow pitch but Latif batted well."

Gohar, who hit three sixes in his knock, put on 123 for the first wicket with Parr.

Swindon skipper Shaz Khan said: "Their total was a big ask and although we were always positive it was simply too much for us in the end.

"But at least we performed better against them than we have in previous seasons."
