Match Report

The 2s went into the game missing a few of the regulars from the successful 2009 campaign which did mean that it was possible to 'blood' a couple of new faces and give a run out to a few other aspiring 2nd teamers.

With Thorpey losing the toss and Sonning being asked to field, the opening bowlers failed to get the breakthrough which finally came when newcomer Nick Ashton trapped Barter in front. Nine bowlers entered the fray in all with Royal Ascot finishing on 213 for 3 from their 40 overs.

With Thorpey out of the game with a dislocated thumb trying to catch a screamer at short cover, the batsmen went about winning the game against an 8 man Royal Ascot side ably assisted by Sonning sub fielders.

With debutants Ben Zagorski (catching Naqas at mid on) and Nick Ashton triggering Alex Wright, a couple of wickets went early but the ship was steadied by James Ford's 61 (before retiring to give others a chance) and a reserved 31 from Terry Wolfendale. Wickets then fell at regular intervals but Sonning did manage to get over the winning line with nearly 6 overs left and three wickets to spare.

All in all a good pre-season work out and nice to start the 2010 campaign with a win.
