Dawes and Dave Star as Sonning 4th XI Demolish Maidenhead & Bray in Dominant Display
Sonning 4th XI secured a comprehensive victory against Maidenhead & Bray at Waingels College, winning by a commanding 112 runs in their Division 10B league fixture. After being asked to bat first, Sonning posted a respectable 185 all out before dismantling the visitors for just 73.
Sonning's innings started precariously with opener Ollie Terry dismissed for a duck and Arun Raghavendra contributing just 2 runs, leaving them struggling at 11-2. Henry Cook provided the first meaningful resistance with a brisk 31 from 25 balls, including six boundaries and a six, before Dhiren Panchal (22 from 63) offered stability through the middle overs.
The innings was truly transformed by an important seventh-wicket partnership between captain Kabir Dave (26) and Elliot Dawes, who top-scored with a well-constructed 42 from 37 deliveries, including seven boundaries. Their mature batting helped Sonning recover from a precarious position to post a competitive total despite Jay Chagar's 3-29 for the visitors.
In response, Maidenhead & Bray never looked comfortable against a disciplined Sonning bowling attack. Jon Ward offered some resistance with 13, while Nick Denning briefly threatened with 15 from 16 balls, including a six, but no other batsman could establish themselves at the crease.
Captain Kabir Dave led from the front with an exceptional bowling spell, claiming 3-5 from his four overs, including the key wickets of Freddie Morris, Amit Kachroo, and George Denning. Kishan Akula provided the finishing touches with 2-4 from just 1.4 overs as Maidenhead & Bray collapsed from 55-4 to 73 all out.
Arthur Parkes (1-11) and Isaac Blakey (1-24) also contributed with economical bowling spells, while Joe Donohue kept things tight despite going wicketless. The Sonning fielders supported their bowlers admirably, executing a crucial run-out and taking all their catching opportunities.
The victory marked an impressive start to Sonning 4th XI's league campaign, showcasing both batting depth and bowling discipline that will serve them well in Division 10B this season.
