Green's Sublime Half-Century Steers Sonning to Comprehensive Ten-Wicket Victory

Sonning Women's 1st XI produced a dominant all-round display to demolish Cookham Dean by ten wickets at Knowl Hill on Sunday, chasing down 107 in just 12.1 overs without losing a single wicket in their Division 3A encounter.

Captain Katie Barrows won the toss and opted to field, a decision that was emphatically vindicated as Sonning's bowling attack dismantled the Cookham Dean batting order throughout a testing 24.2 overs. Geethika Jyothis was the standout performer with the ball, returning remarkable figures of 3-6 from 4.2 overs, while Michaela Herrett matched her three-wicket haul with 3-21 from her five overs.

Cookham Dean's innings never truly gained momentum. Jyothis struck early, trapping opener Caitlin Cairns lbw with just nine on the board. Yasmin Shaukat then bowled Freya Hayden for eight to leave the visitors 19-2 and already under significant pressure. A third-wicket partnership of 24 between Jemima Smith (14) and Shreya Musaloj (9) offered brief resistance, but once Chloe Bailey had Smith caught by Rita Green to break the stand at 43-3, wickets fell at regular intervals.

Alex Delahaye provided the most stubborn resistance for Cookham Dean, occupying the crease for 47 balls in making 15. Her sixth-wicket partnership of 35 with Tilly Harrington represented the visitors' best stand of the innings, but Herrett trapped Delahaye lbw to end the threat. Herrett then completed her impressive spell by having Katie Hawkes caught behind by wicketkeeper Sophie Parker, while Jyothis wrapped up proceedings by taking a catch from Green off captain Charlotte Davis's bat to leave Cookham Dean 106-9. A generous 40 extras, including 27 wides, had significantly inflated the total.

The response from Sonning's openers was emphatic. Green and Jyothis — the latter having already starred with the ball — set about the target with intent from the very first over. The Cookham Dean bowlers struggled to find any rhythm, with six different bowlers used in a desperate attempt to stem the flow of runs.

Green was in imperious form, striking ten fours in a brisk unbeaten 51 from 50 balls. She found the boundary with regularity, punishing anything short or overpitched as the Cookham Dean attack wilted. At the other end, Jyothis continued her outstanding personal contribution to the match, adding an unbeaten 28 from 30 deliveries, lacing six fours of her own through the field. A further 29 extras from the opposition bowlers only hastened the inevitable.

The pair knocked off the required 107 without being separated, reaching their target in just 12.1 overs to seal a comprehensive victory. It was an outstanding individual performance from Jyothis, who finished with match figures of 3-6 with the ball and 28 not out with the bat, while Green's authoritative half-century underlined Sonning's superiority on the day.
