Match Report

I was really looking forward to this last match of the season and with a really strong batting line-up, expecting fireworks of the back of a 6 match winning streak, which is exactly what we got as we slumped to 114 All Out, off 25 overs, on a wicket that had regularly seen 200 runs plus. If it wasn't for a notable knock by Steve Simmons for 25 with the highest sore of the day (although we were 38 for 3 when Steve left the wicket) things would have been significantly worse, yet at that stage, we still some strong batting to come so I wasn't yet overly concerned as we had been in similar situations before and had come out victorious. However the rot continued, as the remainder of the batting was skittled out for 56 with yours truly, again for the 2nd week running, and that being the operative word, dismissed for not being in the right crease at the right time and again for the 2nd week running, c/o my good friend Mr Jagz. We came of the pitch heads down and waved off the tea break to go straight out and get this sorry affair over-with, expecting the home side to treat us with the contempt we deserve. True to form with their opener getting a handsome 43, set them on target for early beers and home. BUT it wasn't without dramas of its own, apart from his solid stand, we took 7 wickets for 63 in the next 25 overs with 3 a piece from Mr Jagz and Mr Astwood 25 and 34 runs a piece (plus 3 dropped catches, of which, only one wasn't a "dolly" - including 2 in one over off Jacob's bowling) As the old adage goes "Catches win Matches" and I would suggest that this was a definite case in point. As a footnote, Jacobs 8 overs were a perfect demonstration of bowling fractionally short of a length delivery after delivery with the ball rising majestically past the batsman shoulders as unplayable and if a spell deserved wickets for pace and accuracy, this was that spell. Needless to say the winning streak had to came to an end at some point but oh what could have been. Thanks to you all for a great season and looking forward to 2019
