Khan and Blakey Star as Sonning 4th XI Cruise to Victory Over Eversley

Sonning 4th XI secured a comfortable four-wicket victory against Eversley at home in their Division 10A league fixture on Saturday. After winning the toss and electing to field, Sonning's bowlers delivered a clinical performance, dismissing the visitors for just 90 runs before successfully chasing down the target with 16 overs to spare.

Isaac Blakey led the Sonning bowling attack with impressive figures of 3-39 from his eight overs, removing Eversley's top order. The 18-year-old claimed the key wickets of Jack Mitchell, Oliver Mosses, and Aditya Mali to put Sonning in a commanding position early in the match. Raja-Shahroz Khan provided the perfect finishing touch with a devastating spell, taking three wickets for just one run in 1.4 overs to clean up Eversley's tail.

Jon Last was the only Eversley batsman to offer significant resistance, contributing 31 runs before being caught by Finlay Griffith off Warren Swannell's bowling. Sunit Bansode also impressed with the ball for Sonning, claiming 2-7 from his three economical overs, as Eversley struggled to build momentum throughout their innings.

Chasing 91 for victory, Sonning captain Charles Astwood got his side off to a positive start with a brisk 13 from 12 deliveries, including two boundaries. However, Matt Gullick led Eversley's fightback with an impressive 3-16 from seven overs, including three maidens, to keep the visitors in the contest.

Richard Skeil provided stability in the middle order with a patient 15 from 47 balls, but it was Finlay Griffith who sealed the victory with a match-winning cameo. The youngster remained unbeaten on 26 from 24 deliveries, striking six boundaries in a fluent knock that guided Sonning home with four wickets in hand.

The 29-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Griffith and Warren Swannell proved crucial in taking Sonning closer to their target after they had found themselves in a potentially tricky position at 57-5. Despite Swannell falling for 4, Griffith continued his assault on the Eversley bowling to complete a comprehensive win for the home side.

The victory sees Sonning 4th XI maintain their strong form in Division 10A, with their bowling unit once again demonstrating their ability to dismiss opposition sides for low totals before their batsmen efficiently completed the chase.
