U13 Spartans Post Commanding 22-Run Victory Over Chieveley

Sonning U13 Spartans secured a convincing win against Chieveley in the BYCL Under 13 Challenge (Tier 2) West league fixture at Waingels College on Tuesday evening, posting 158 for 6 before restricting the visitors to 136 for 7 from their 20 overs.

Batting first in this 20-over contest, Sonning set about building a formidable total from the outset. The Spartans' batting unit showed impressive intent throughout the innings, accumulating runs at a rate approaching eight an over. Losing six wickets along the way suggested the scoring was not without its risks, but the home side's batters consistently found the boundary and kept the scoreboard ticking over at pace.

The target of 159 was always going to be a stiff challenge under floodlit conditions, and so it proved. Chieveley's batters made a genuine contest of the chase, reaching 136 from their full allocation of overs, but they were never quite able to match the required rate set by the Spartans' imposing first-innings total.

Sonning's bowlers deserve considerable credit for maintaining discipline throughout the second innings. Taking seven wickets demonstrated that the home side had enough variety and accuracy in their attack to apply sustained pressure on the Chieveley batting line-up.
