Sonning 4th XI's Valiant Effort Falls Short Despite Jones' Unbeaten 65

Sonning 4th XI suffered a narrow defeat to Binfield in their Division 10A league fixture at Waingels College on Saturday, despite Stephen Jones' resilient unbeaten 65. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Sonning posted a competitive total of 210-5 from their allotted 40 overs, but Binfield's late charge saw them reach their target with just one ball to spare.

Jones anchored the Sonning innings with a patient 65 not out from 109 deliveries, forming crucial partnerships throughout. After the early dismissal of Kavya Panchal for 8, Jones found support from Kyle Dellar-Law, who struck a quickfire 41 from just 35 balls, including seven boundaries and a six. Their 65-run partnership for the third wicket provided the foundation for Sonning's total.

Henry Cook contributed a brisk 29 from 22 deliveries before Sagar Dave added valuable late runs with 31 from 39 balls. Harry Jones was the pick of the Binfield bowlers, claiming 2-28 from his eight overs, while Jaden Slaughter bowled economically for his 1-28.

Chasing 211 for victory, Binfield's innings began cautiously with Anthony Goff (32) and Jon Gould (21) putting on 65 for the first wicket. Sonning captain Kabir Dave struck twice with the ball, removing Tony Smith and Ahmer Mughal both lbw, to keep his side in the contest.

Nathan Tweed emerged as Sonning's most effective bowler, claiming 3-44 from his eight overs, including the crucial wickets of Goff and Harry Jones. Ollie Terry also made valuable contributions with the ball, finishing with 2-52 from his 7.5 overs.

Binfield captain James Bennett led from the front with a crucial 43 from 37 balls, including six boundaries, before Aiden Van Der Walt delivered the decisive blow with a blistering 31 not out from just 11 deliveries. His explosive innings, featuring three sixes and three fours, accelerated Binfield to victory in the final over.

Despite two run-outs and some disciplined bowling spells, Sonning's total of 210 proved insufficient as Binfield reached 213-9 with one ball remaining, securing a hard-fought win in this competitive Division 10A encounter.
