Falcons Soar Past Royal Ascot to Claim Victory in Under 9 League Clash

Sonning U9 Falcons secured a well-deserved victory over Royal Ascot in the BYCL Under 9 Super 8s Central league on 19th June, successfully chasing down 95 to win with a total of 101 for 3 from their 16 overs. Captain Jonathan Turner won the toss and opted to field first, a decision that ultimately proved astute as the Falcons' bowlers kept the visitors in check before the batsmen finished the job.

Royal Ascot, batting first, posted 94 for 4 from their 16 overs, with extras contributing a significant 40 runs to the total. Henry Adamson was the standout performer with the bat for the visitors, striking 15 from 18 balls including two boundaries. Sam Gay added a useful 10 from 17 deliveries, also finding the fence twice, while captain Luka Shaw Lapetra contributed 8 from 13 balls at the top of the order. Mathieu Wildon chipped in with 8 from 13, but the Royal Ascot middle order struggled to build momentum against some disciplined Sonning bowling.

The pick of the Falcons' bowling attack was Vivaan Ramesh, who returned outstanding figures of 2 for 4 from his two overs without conceding a single wide or no-ball — a remarkable spell of accuracy at this age group. His control stood in stark contrast to some of the other bowling on display throughout the match. Captain Turner also made an impact with the ball, claiming 1 for 23 from three overs, while Lewis Towner picked up the other wicket, finishing with 1 for 17 from two overs.

Kiyaan Gupta deserves particular mention for his tidy spell of 2-0-7-0, bowling without a single extra — disciplined figures that helped keep the Royal Ascot total within reach. Kabir Nair Bansode was similarly economical, conceding just 8 runs from his two overs.

In reply, the Falcons' batting was characterised by contributions throughout the order. Vivaan Ramesh, having already starred with the ball, top-scored with an impressive 13 from 16 balls, striking two fours to underline his all-round credentials. Edward Heath batted with patience for 11 from 14 deliveries, while Kiyaan Gupta provided some pyrotechnics with 10 from just 9 balls, finding the boundary twice in a brisk knock that kept the run rate ticking over.

Lewis Towner added 9 from 17 balls, clearing the rope for the only six of the match in an entertaining innings. Avinash Chintamaneni got the chase off to a positive start with 7 from 9 balls at the top of the order, and Kabir Nair Bansode and Ishaan Acharya both made useful contributions of 5 and 4 respectively. The Falcons' innings benefited from 39 extras, with the Royal Ascot bowlers struggling for consistency at times — Mathieu Wildon conceded 25 from his two overs including six no-balls, while Monty Randall went for 23 from two overs.

Sam Gay was the most effective bowler for Royal Ascot, taking 2 for 9 from three overs with commendable control, while Harry Kachel claimed the other wicket with figures of 1 for 9 from two overs. Captain Luka Shaw Lapetra was the most economical of the visitors' attack, conceding just 4 runs from his two overs. However, their efforts were not enough as the Falcons reached their target to collect the full 20 league points.
