Match Report

Scorchers Demolish MP Sports Academy in Dominant All-Round Display

Sonning U11 Scorchers produced a commanding performance at Reading Blue Coat School on 7th June, bowling out MP Sports Academy for just 32 before chasing down the target in only four overs to secure a comprehensive victory in the U11 League Pool 3.

MP Sports Academy won the toss and elected to bat, but their decision backfired almost immediately. Musa Meer struck with the first wicket in his opening over, removing captain Ben Waite for a duck to leave the visitors reeling at 0-1. Meer was in devastating form, claiming Alexander Ahmad (4) and Leo Coates (4) to finish with outstanding figures of 3-6 from his two overs, the best return of the match.

The MP Sports Academy batting order found themselves under constant pressure as the Scorchers rotated their bowlers effectively. Bhuvik Rao Mane Prakashrao Santhoshrao picked up the wicket of Charlie Wooten for 1, while Jacob Garner dismissed Leo Johnson for a golden duck as the visitors slumped to 18-5. The middle order offered little resistance, with Vivaan Ramesh producing a remarkable spell — a maiden over in which he claimed two wickets, removing Toby Gardner and Freddy Batty in quick succession to reduce MP Sports Academy to 20-7.

Jonathan Turner then applied the finishing touches with the ball, taking 2-1 from his single over as he dismissed Andrew Jeanmeure and George Morris. Alexander Hatchett-Walker completed the rout, needing just four balls to claim the final wicket of Josh Gardner, caught by Vivaan Ramesh, as MP Sports Academy were bowled out for 32 in 10.4 overs. Only Sammy Ahmad showed any meaningful resistance, carrying his bat for an unbeaten 8 from 19 balls. Captain Oliver Baker also deserves credit for his tidy spell, bowling a maiden over without conceding a run.

The chase was a formality, but the manner of the Scorchers' run pursuit was emphatic. Alexander Hatchett-Walker and Ridith Kandadi opened the batting, putting on 15 for the first wicket before Kandadi fell bowled by Ben Waite for 4.

The arrival of Vivaan Ramesh at number three turned what was already a straightforward chase into a procession. Ramesh blazed an unbeaten 17 from just five deliveries, crashing three boundaries to take the game away from the opposition in a matter of minutes. The target was overhauled in just four overs, with the Scorchers reaching 33-1 and eight of their batters not required to pad up.

It was a match defined by Sonning's collective bowling effort — nine bowlers were used, and seven of them took at least one wicket. Ramesh's all-round contribution of 2-0 with the ball followed by 17 not out with the bat was the standout individual performance in what proved to be a thoroughly one-sided contest.
