Match Report

Sharks Cruise to Convincing Victory at Peppard Common Behind Sivaram's Classy 31

Sonning U13 Sharks produced a dominant all-round display to sweep aside Peppard Stoke Row at Peppard Common on 14 August, posting a formidable 167 for 5 from their 20 overs before bowling the hosts out for just 73 in 14.2 overs in this BYCL Under 13 Challenge (Tier 1) North West fixture.

Captain Tejus Maddi won the toss and had no hesitation in electing to bat, and the decision was quickly vindicated as Sonning's top order set about the Peppard bowling attack with intent. Oliver Barker and Maddi put on 35 for the opening wicket, laying a solid platform before Barker fell bowled by Reuben Shah for 4. Maddi continued to accumulate fluently, striking three fours in his knock of 19 from 28 balls before he was caught by Sam Davies off the bowling of James Sanigar, leaving Sonning 54 for 2.

Saurav Sivaram then took centre stage with the innings' highest score, an assured 31 from 26 deliveries that included four boundaries. Sivaram batted with composure and purpose throughout his stay at the crease before retiring not out, having done significant damage. He shared a productive third-wicket partnership of 33 with Sibikumar Muthukumaran, who contributed a brisk 10 from just seven balls with two fours before being stumped by Trystan Davies off Sam Davies.

The lower middle order maintained the momentum impressively. Jamie Dollinger played with real authority, finishing unbeaten on 24 from 22 balls and cracking five fours in an innings that anchored the latter overs. Elias Haidari provided explosive hitting with 15 off just six deliveries, including two fours and a six, before falling caught by Davies off Davies for the second time in the innings. Hitesh Kaushik Reddy Karem saw the innings through with a steady unbeaten 7. Peppard's bowlers struggled for consistency, conceding 53 extras — including 31 wides and 14 no-balls — with Benji White's two overs proving particularly costly at 31 runs, including seven wides and six no-balls.

Chasing 168, Peppard's reply never gained any traction. Dollinger struck early with the new ball, bowling opposition captain Trystan Davies for 1 with the score on just 7. Sivaram then removed Roo Henderson, bowled for 6, to leave the hosts struggling at 20 for 2.

Max Burnett offered the most resistance for Peppard, hitting three fours in a counter-attacking 14 from 14 balls, but the home side's innings collapsed dramatically once Idris Malik entered the attack. Malik produced a devastating spell of 3 for 7 from his two overs, dismissing Seb Mcquillan lbw for 4, then bowling Sam Davies and Reuben Shah in quick succession — both for ducks — to reduce Peppard from 40 for 2 to 40 for 5 in a devastating passage of play.

Maddi completed an excellent captain's performance by claiming 2 for 6 from his single over, bowling Arya Kaman for 3 and Wynter Greenaway for 1, while Dollinger's figures of 2 for 12 from two overs included the key scalp of Burnett, bowled for 14. Oliver Barker then wrapped up proceedings, having James Sanigar caught by Muthukumaran for 2 to end the innings at 73 for 9. No Peppard batsman reached 15, and only Burnett managed to find the boundary with any regularity, underlining the quality and discipline of Sonning's bowling and fielding throughout.
