Match Report

Sabres Fall Short as Datchet's Top Order Proves Too Strong at Knowl Hill

Sonning U11 Sabres suffered a defeat at the hands of Datchet in their BYCL Under 11 Challenge (Tier 1) East fixture at Knowl Hill CC on 21st June, with the visitors chasing down the target in just seven overs after winning the toss and electing to field.

Captain Viaan Choudermet opened the batting for the Sabres alongside Monish Karthik Saimpu after Datchet chose to bowl first. The innings got off to a slow start, with Choudermet managing just 2 from 10 balls and being dismissed twice in the pairs format. Monish showed more resistance, contributing 9 runs including a boundary from his 14 deliveries.

Oliver Baker provided the most substantial contribution with the bat, top-scoring for the Sabres with 12 runs from 14 balls, including a four, and crucially remained not out throughout his stint at the crease. Ved Patwa struck two fours in his brisk 9 off 10 balls, while Araiz Younis added a useful 8 from 12 deliveries. The Sabres' innings was bolstered significantly by 27 extras, all in wides, as the Datchet bowlers struggled at times with their accuracy.

Navishan Kamalabas was the pick of the Datchet attack, delivering an outstanding spell of 3 overs for just 4 runs and a wicket, applying sustained pressure on the Sabres batters. Ayoub Khokhar proved the most prolific wicket-taker with 2 for 23 from his 3 overs, while Ethan Subel was tidy with 2-0-7-0.

The Sabres posted 87 for 10 from their 16 overs, but the total proved well within Datchet's reach. Siadon Chaffay set the tone immediately at the top of the order, blazing 21 from just 12 balls with four boundaries in an unbeaten knock that left the Sonning bowlers searching for answers. Ethan Subel complemented him superbly, striking 17 off 12 balls with three fours of his own before being dismissed once.

Rauman Akmal then accelerated the chase further with a quickfire 14 from 7 deliveries, lacing three boundaries as Datchet raced towards the target. The visitors' top three combined for 52 runs from the bat alone, and with 24 extras — including 18 byes — the chase was completed inside 7 overs with only 2 wickets lost.

Bhuvik Rao Mane Prakashrao Santhoshrao claimed a wicket in his 2 overs for the Sabres, while Rian Gehlot also picked up a scalp from his single over. Ved Patwa was the most economical of the Sonning bowlers, conceding 11 from his 3.1 overs, though he was unable to break through. It was a tough afternoon for the young Sabres side, who will need to find ways to post more competitive totals if they are to challenge the stronger sides in the division.
