U11 Sharks Post Commanding 56-Run Victory Over Harpsden

Sonning U11 Sharks produced a dominant all-round display to defeat Harpsden by 56 runs in their BYCL Under 11 Challenge fixture at Reading Blue Coat School on 31 May 2026. After being inserted by Harpsden, who won the toss and elected to field, the Sharks amassed 163 for 4 from their 20 overs before restricting the visitors to 107 for 7 in reply.

The Sonning innings was built on contributions throughout the order, with Freddie Jansen leading the way with an impressive 20 off 15 balls, striking two fours in a fluent knock that provided vital impetus in the closing stages. Ajith Vangara was equally influential higher up the order, compiling 15 off 15 deliveries with two boundaries, while Seve Horton chipped in with a busy 13 from 12 balls. Rudransh Singh added a brisk 9 off 8 balls including a four, and wicketkeeper Savraj Sall struck a quickfire 7 from just 6 deliveries.

Extras played a significant role in swelling the Sonning total, with 79 additional runs — including 59 wides — gifted by a wayward Harpsden attack. George Wheeler conceded 10 wides from his two overs, while Massimo Elliott leaked 14 wides across three overs. Keagan Molloy and Eddy Johnson also struggled with their radar, sending down 9 and 8 wides respectively in their spells.

Harpsden's reply never gained the necessary momentum against a disciplined Sharks bowling unit. Captain Oliver Baker set the tone with an economical spell of 2-0-6-0, including a maiden over, while Freddie Jansen backed up his batting heroics with an outstanding 2-0-3-0 that also included a maiden. Ajith Vangara delivered the standout bowling figures of the match, returning remarkable figures of 2-1-1-1, conceding just a single run from his two overs while claiming a wicket.

The star of the Sharks' bowling effort, however, was Rian Gehlot, who claimed two wickets for just 3 runs from his two overs, breaking the back of the Harpsden middle order. His double strike proved decisive in ensuring the visitors were never in contention for the target.

Ridley Thomas top-scored for Harpsden with a defiant 16 off 15 balls, while George Wheeler contributed 12 off 12 and Eddy Johnson made 11 from 14 deliveries. Captain Hugo Dunn added 7 off 10 balls batting at number ten, but the visiting side were unable to build any sustained partnerships against the Sharks' varied attack. Bhuvik Rao Mane Prakashrao Santhoshrao and Seve Horton both delivered tidy spells of 2-0-7-0, keeping the pressure on throughout.

The comprehensive victory underlined the Sharks' strength in depth, with all ten players bowling and every member of the batting lineup getting to the crease and contributing. Sonning picked up the full 20 league points as they continue their campaign in the North West division of the Tier 1 competition.
