Match Report

Sonning 2nds Outgunned by Penn & Tylers Green's Explosive Batting at French Meadows

Penn & Tylers Green amassed a formidable 314 all out after winning the toss and electing to bat at French Meadows, a total that proved far beyond Sonning 2nd XI's reach as they were dismissed for 117 in this Division 4B encounter on 23rd May.

The hosts' innings was built around a devastating knock from Lochie Christopherson, who blasted 82 from just 45 balls, striking nine fours and six sixes in a breathtaking display of power hitting. Christopherson shared a crucial second-wicket partnership of 126 with opener Raunak Biswas, who contributed a patient 29 from 57 deliveries. That stand took the score from 22 to 148 and laid the foundation for the onslaught that followed.

Even after Christopherson fell bowled by Shenul Widanapathirana, the runs kept flowing. Rohith Shylendra struck 43 from 30 balls, hitting nine fours in a boundary-laden innings, before Mustafa Khalid continued the punishment with an aggressive 56 from 39 balls, including six fours and three sixes. Captain Henry Barber weighed in with a quickfire 26 from 15 balls, and together with Khalid added 46 for the seventh wicket to push the total past 270.

Widanapathirana was the pick of the Sonning bowlers, claiming 3-50 from his 6.1 overs, including the prized scalp of Christopherson. Jack Durrant took 2-65 from his nine overs, while Duncan Parr (2-56) and Max Murphy (2-56) each chipped in with a brace. Despite bowling Penn & Tylers Green out with five balls of the innings remaining, the damage had been comprehensively done.

Chasing 315, Sonning's reply got off to the worst possible start when Rahul Sood was caught by Rohith Shylendra off Wills Barber for a duck with the score on just eight. Duncan Parr struck three fours in his 13 before being bowled by the same bowler, leaving Sonning 25-2 and already staring down a daunting deficit.

Captain Dan Anderson fought hard at number three, top-scoring with 39 from 65 balls as he attempted to anchor the innings. Anderson struck six fours and watched from the other end as wickets tumbled around him, with Shenul Widanapathirana run out for 2 and Murphy trapped at the crease for a 13-ball duck. Wicketkeeper Jack Lloyd was in outstanding form behind the stumps for the hosts, involved in five dismissals across the innings. By the time Anderson was caught by Lloyd off Leo Byrne at 82-6, the contest was effectively over.

Henry Cook provided a brief moment of excitement, smashing 26 from just 15 balls with two fours and three sixes, adding 22 for the seventh wicket with Ollie Terry. But Raunak Biswas proved unplayable with the ball, returning superb figures of 4-30 from nine overs with four maidens, and once Cook was caught off his bowling, the tail folded quickly. Ethan Towner was stumped by Lloyd for nought and Jack Durrant was bowled by Dylan Yatigammana with his first delivery, as Sonning were dismissed for 117 in 29.1 overs, falling to a comprehensive defeat by 197 runs.
