Match Report

Sabres Cruise to Emphatic Victory Without Losing a Wicket

Sonning U15 Sabres produced a dominant all-round display to dispatch Slough at Waingels College, chasing down 115 with all ten wickets intact and nearly eight overs to spare in this BYCL Under 15 T20 Challenge fixture.

Captain Ethan Towner won the toss and inserted Slough, a decision that paid immediate dividends. Affan Tak struck in his opening spell, removing Slough skipper Hassan Chaudhry for a duck, caught by Naivedya Pathak with the score on just 8. Nathan Salisbury then compounded the visitors' misery, having Naitik Chunduri caught by Timothy Jenner for nought, leaving Slough reeling at 11 for 2.

Srihan Chandra offered some resistance with a brisk 15 from 15 balls, striking three fours in a partnership of 24 with Rohan Desai for the third wicket. Pathak broke through, however, taking a return catch to dismiss Chandra and end the stand. Mohammad Junaid Qureshi and Desai then steadied things with a 30-run partnership for the fourth wicket, but Neel Kumar had Qureshi caught by Jenner for 13 to maintain the pressure. When Darshil Saxena bowled Desai for 8, Slough had slumped to 67 for 5 and were in deep trouble.

Sarvesh Lakshmanan and Siddharth Panda mounted a spirited recovery, adding 45 for the sixth wicket to inject some respectability into the total. Lakshmanan finished unbeaten on 18 from 19 balls, while Panda contributed 14 before being run out with the score on 112. Slough closed on 114 for 6, a total that was significantly inflated by 44 extras, including 28 wides — an area the Sabres' bowlers will want to tighten up. Jenner took two catches in the field, while Neel Kumar's three overs for 12 runs and one wicket represented the most economical spell of the innings.

The Sabres' reply was utterly convincing. Towner led from the front, batting with authority from the outset and striking five fours in a commanding knock of 31 from 25 balls. Jack Durrant provided the ideal foil at the other end, accumulating steadily with 26 from 30 deliveries, including two boundaries. The opening pair put the chase firmly on course before both retired not out to allow their teammates time in the middle.

Darshil Saxena contributed a measured 5 not out, while Timothy Jenner finished the job in style with an unbeaten 11 from just 9 balls. The target was reached in the 13th over, with the Sabres posting 115 without loss. Slough's bowlers struggled for accuracy throughout, conceding 41 extras — 31 of which came from wides — as eight different bowlers were used in an attempt to stem the flow of runs.

The comprehensive nature of the victory was underlined by the fact that Sonning required contributions from only four batsmen, with seven players not needed. It was a polished team performance from the Sabres, who earned the full 20 league points with their clinical dismantling of Slough's bowling attack.
