Dean's Century Powers Sonning to Victory at Pinkneys Green

Louis Dean crafted a magnificent century as Sonning Sunday As successfully chased down 199 to defeat Pinkneys Green at their home ground on June 13th. Dean's controlled innings of 100 from just 83 deliveries, including 15 boundaries and a six, guided Sonning to their target with nearly 10 overs to spare.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Pinkneys Green started confidently with captain Richard Hemmings contributing 37 at the top of the order before being run out by Shamitha Widanapathirana. Ben Purchese then took center stage, scoring a patient 47 before falling to Arun Kumar Pera, who emerged as Sonning's most effective bowler with figures of 3-52.

The Sonning bowling attack maintained consistent pressure throughout the innings, with Michael Longridge (1-14) and Kyle Deller-Law (2-25) delivering economical spells. Despite contributions from several Pinkneys Green batsmen, including Khush Chamdal (15) and Will O'Connor (11), they were restricted to 198-7 from their allocated 40 overs, with extras accounting for 48 of those runs.

In response, Sonning's chase was built around a dominant 132-run partnership for the second wicket between Dean and William Hibberdine. After captain Charles Astwood fell early for just 1, caught behind off Ben Purchese, Hibberdine provided excellent support with a well-constructed 55 from 65 deliveries that included eight boundaries.

Dean reached his century with a flurry of boundaries before retiring not out, having laid the foundation for victory. Although Will O'Connor (2-39) claimed two quick wickets to give Pinkneys Green brief hope, the damage had already been done. Richard Skeil (7), followed by Daniel Longridge (2 not out) and Shamitha Widanapathirana (9 not out) saw Sonning comfortably over the line at 201-4 in the 31st over.

The Pinkneys Green bowling attack struggled to contain Sonning's batsmen, with only Purchese (1-28), O'Connor (2-39), and Khush Chamdal (1-2) managing to take wickets. Their cause wasn't helped by conceding 22 extras, which further eased Sonning's path to victory.

The result was particularly impressive for Sonning as they overcame the challenge of chasing on an away ground, demonstrating both batting depth and bowling discipline to secure a convincing six-wicket win.
