Match Report
Eagles Soar to Convincing Victory as Rawat and Turner Dismantle Slough
Sonning U9 Eagles travelled to Slough CC Ground 1 on 13 August and produced a dominant all-round display to secure a comprehensive victory in the U9 Super 8s – East league. Captain Jude Alden won the toss and chose to bat, a decision that proved shrewd as the Eagles posted 119 for 7 from their 16 overs before bowling Slough out for just 66, winning by 53 runs.
Ethan Cawsey top-scored for Sonning with a fluent 17 from 14 balls, striking three fours in an innings that provided the backbone of the Eagles' total. Aryaansh Rawat contributed a brisk 13 from 10 deliveries, including two boundaries, while Ridith Kandadi also hit two fours in his 11 off 14 balls. Several other batters chipped in — Ranbir Setia added 6, Alden struck a four in his 5, and Jonathan Turner made 4 — ensuring the runs were spread throughout the order.
Extras played a significant role in the Sonning total, with 63 additional runs coming from the Slough bowling attack. The home side's bowlers struggled for accuracy, conceding 39 wides across the innings. Yusuf Asif was the most expensive, leaking 27 runs from his two overs including eight wides, while captain Sulayman Sherazi sent down 12 wides in his spell. Mohammed Waliullah Hussaini and Zahid Hussaini were the pick of the Slough bowlers, claiming two wickets apiece.
Defending a sizeable total, Sonning's bowlers were outstanding. Aryaansh Rawat turned in a remarkable spell with the ball, taking 5 wickets for just 5 runs from three overs, including a maiden. It was a devastating performance that ripped the heart out of the Slough batting order and set the tone for the entire innings.
Jonathan Turner was equally impressive at the other end, claiming 3 for 2 from his two overs with a maiden to his name. Together, Rawat and Turner accounted for eight wickets while conceding only seven runs between them — a spell that effectively ended the contest as a competition.
Ridith Kandadi (2-7), Heet Panchal (2-9), and Rudra Halai (2-9) all weighed in with two wickets each, ensuring no Slough batter could settle. In total, 19 wickets fell in the second innings as the home side were dismissed well short of their target. Ayoub Khokhar showed some resistance for Slough with 11 runs, including a six and a four, while Harshir Khan made 10, but neither could stem the tide.
Sulayman Sherazi endured a particularly difficult afternoon, dismissed five times in the pairs format and finishing without scoring from 10 balls. Only Shreeram Deshpande, who remained not out on 5, managed to survive the Eagles' relentless bowling attack unscathed. The 53-run margin of victory reflected Sonning's superiority in every department and earned the Eagles a full 20 league points from the fixture.
