Match Report
Falcons Fall Short as Peppard Stoke Row Prove Too Strong at Peppard Common
Sonning U9 Falcons travelled to Peppard Common on Wednesday evening for their BYCL Under 9 Super 8s North West league fixture, but were unable to contain the hosts as Peppard Stoke Row posted a commanding total and ran out comfortable winners.
Peppard Stoke Row won the toss and chose to bat first in this pairs format contest. Their batsmen made the most of the opportunity, accumulating 71 runs from their 20 overs. While individual batting scores were recorded as pairs contributions across the ten-player squad, the home side's total of 46 runs from the bat, supplemented by 25 in extras, gave them a platform that would prove decisive.
The Falcons' bowling attack showed encouraging signs despite the result. Arthur Miles was the standout performer with the ball, claiming one wicket from his three overs — the most economical spell of the Sonning attack. Elijah Mani also chipped in with a wicket from his two overs, demonstrating good control for a player of his age. Captain Elijah Patel and Dylan Rana each bowled tidy two-over spells, keeping things disciplined even as the home batsmen found their rhythm.
In reply, the Falcons found run-scoring difficult against a well-organised Peppard Stoke Row bowling unit. Sonning managed just 14 runs from the bat across their 20 overs, with 41 extras making up the bulk of their total of 55. Elijah Mani, Dylan Rana, Arthur Miles, and Elijah Patel all found it tough going against the home side's bowlers, who maintained consistent pressure throughout the innings.
Peppard Stoke Row's bowling was disciplined and effective. Lorcan was the pick of their attack, claiming two wickets from his two overs, while Leo and Zach each took one wicket apiece. The variety and accuracy on offer gave the Falcons' young batsmen little opportunity to score freely.
The 16-run deficit — 71 to 55 — confirmed Peppard Stoke Row as deserved winners, earning them the full two league points. For the Falcons, the bowling performances of Miles and Mani offered genuine positives, while the batting remains an area where the young side will need to develop greater confidence and shot selection in future fixtures.
