U9 Falcons Claim Victory at Ali's Pond with Dominant All-Round Display

Sonning U9 Falcons secured a well-deserved win against Boyne Hill in the U9 Super 8s North East league fixture at Reading Blue Coat School's Ali's Pond Pitch on 18th June 2023. After being inserted by Boyne Hill, who won the toss and elected to field, the Falcons posted 98 runs from their 20 overs before restricting the visitors to 88, winning by 10 runs in a match where contributions came from across the squad.

Alexander Hatchett-Walker was the standout performer with the bat, top-scoring with an unbeaten 14 from 15 balls, striking two boundaries in a composed innings that provided the backbone of the Sonning total. Ethan Cawsey was equally impressive, contributing 11 runs from 12 deliveries including a four, while Alexander Green got the innings off to a positive start at the top of the order with 10 from 13 balls, finding the boundary rope twice.

Jonathan Turner chipped in with a useful 8 from 12 balls, and Aryaansh Rawat added 7 not out from 11 deliveries to ensure a healthy total. Arthur Teed (6 off 9) and Jasper Hawkins (6 off 8) both made handy contributions in the middle order, while Heet Panchal and captain Lewis Towner each scored 5. Extras proved significant too, with 25 wides from the Boyne Hill attack boosting the Falcons' total considerably.

For Boyne Hill's bowlers, Sami was the pick, returning excellent figures of 2 wickets for just 6 runs from 2 overs without conceding a single wide. Sahib also impressed, bowling a maiden in his 2-over spell and claiming a wicket for only 5 runs. Shaurya was similarly disciplined, taking 1 for 7 with a maiden of his own.

In reply, Boyne Hill found run-scoring difficult against a disciplined and varied Sonning attack. Eloy top-scored for the visitors with 11 from 13 balls, hitting two fours, while Shaurya and Sahib each contributed 10 to give Boyne Hill some hope. Millan added 8 from 10 deliveries, but the remaining batters struggled to find the boundary with regularity.

The Falcons' bowling effort was a genuine team performance, with eight of the ten bowlers picking up at least one wicket. Heet Panchal delivered the most miserly spell of the match, a remarkable 2 overs for just 1 run and a wicket without conceding a single extra. Jonathan Turner was similarly tight, taking 1 for 4 from his 2 overs, while Aryaansh Rawat returned figures of 1 for 4 as well. Arthur Teed was the only multiple wicket-taker, claiming 2 for 14, and Ethan Cawsey, Lewis Towner, Jasper Hawkins, and Alexander Hatchett-Walker all weighed in with a wicket apiece to share the spoils.

Boyne Hill's innings was hampered by the loss of 12 wickets, with the 5-run dismissal penalty in this Super 8s format proving costly. While their extras tally of 39 — including 33 wides — kept the scoreboard ticking, it was not enough to overhaul the Falcons' total. The result earned Sonning a full 2 league points and underlined the squad's impressive depth in both batting and bowling departments.
