Fitton Stars as Sonning Chase Down Bagshot with Four Wickets to Spare

Sonning Sunday As secured a comfortable four-wicket victory over Bagshot at King George's Field, with Jacob Fitton's unbeaten 42 guiding the hosts to their target of 123 with plenty of overs to spare.

After winning the toss and electing to field, Sonning's balanced bowling attack restricted Bagshot to 122 all out from 35.5 overs. Stuart Derry provided the backbone of Bagshot's innings with a patient 45 from 79 deliveries, while Derek Budd remained unbeaten on 32 at the close.

The Sonning bowlers shared the wickets around, with Michael Longridge, Daniel Longridge and Kyle Deller-Law each claiming two victims. The latter's figures of 2-15 from five overs proved particularly economical, while Jacob Fitton demonstrated his all-round value with tidy figures of 1-12 from six overs, including a maiden.

Bagshot's innings never gained significant momentum, with Stuart Derry forming useful partnerships with Michael Madigan (25 runs) and Jacob Madigam (23 runs), but regular wickets prevented the visitors from building a commanding total. Bill Travers delivered the final blow, claiming the last wicket with Richard Skeil taking his second catch of the innings.

In reply, Sonning captain Charles Astwood got his side off to a flying start with a quickfire 26 from just 21 deliveries, including five boundaries. Despite losing Richard Skeil to a run-out and Bill Travers cheaply, the home side maintained a positive approach throughout their chase.

Isaac Blakey contributed a useful 16 before Jacob Fitton took control of proceedings with a match-winning 42 not out from 37 balls, including five fours and a six. Despite Kabir Dave's run-out after a watchful 8 from 38 deliveries, Michael Longridge (7 not out) joined Fitton to guide Sonning home with 126-6 from 24.1 overs.

Alex Murray (2-16) and Matt Ralph (2-21) were the pick of Bagshot's bowlers, but their efforts proved insufficient as Sonning completed their chase with nearly 16 overs remaining, securing a convincing victory in this Sunday friendly encounter.
