Sonning CC are very excited to announce that for the 2020 season we have formed a new Women’s Cricket Team - Sonning Stingers. We play softball cricket; it is competitive but the emphasis is on having fun, and without the need for a lot of skill, fitness, pads, helmets, etc is a great introduction to the game for those who haven’t played before. It is played in a “pairs format”, similar to junior age cricket, can be played indoors or outdoors and in fact a full game normally would last approximately 1.5 hours.
We started training this winter and entered out first tournament, the friendly Ladies Softball Cricket Tournament, run by Berkshire Cricket Foundation in December, which saw us sporting our new matching T-shirts and festive headgear! We came 4th out of 5, running close to 3rd, had immense fun and are very proud to do so well in our first ever proper game after just 3 training sessions!
What’s more, the word is spreading and this means moving forward, entering the league, we can pick strong teams, field more than 1 team and also not have to worry about availability (the Senior Men’s Captains will be so jealous).
We have held a number of taster/training session at Waingels College so far this winter and regular training will start early Spring. Details of which will be confirmed soon.
